Why ETHD and not USD?
Inflation. Unlike USD, ETHD can never be created nor destroyed. There are 1,000,000 ETHD in circulation and this will be true forever. In comparison, the average USD inflation rate is 2% per year. If you choose to hold USD long term you will lose on average, at least 2% of your wealth per year for no reason. The ETHD inflation is and will always be 0%. There is no governing force that can create more ETHD. No one owns it.
